Lets talk about wasps

I hate wasps.  They serve no purpose.  We already have bees to pollinate and bats to eat smaller bugs.  Bees only attack when provoked, and disembowel themselves when they sting you, so they will only sting you once, then die.  Wasps have smooth stingers and will sting you, unprovoked, repeatedly.  In conclusion, they exist only to cause pain and wreak havoc.

I bring this up because I feel that guns are the wasps of self-defense.  I’m getting really fucking fed up with the reactionary cowards in this country defending their pretend right to own fucking automatic weapons over the safety of their fellow citizens.  The thing that really gets me is that these are usually the same people that identify as “pro-life.”  Well guess what- if you are against stricter gun laws, if you pepper your conversation with bigotry and violence,  if you think it’s appropriate to mix guns and kids, you support killing children.  You don’t have to pull the trigger yourself to be an accessory to gun violence.  To the gun nuts of America: YOU are responsible for every gun-related tragedy in this country.  When a nine year-old gets shot, you are responsible.  When an eight year-old shoots himself in the head at a gun show, you are responsible.  Guns serve one purpose and one purpose only.  I don’t need to spell it out for you. Leave the “who, me?” bullshit to Alfred E. Newman.

The saddest thing to me is the snake-eating-its-tail nature of guns.  A nut with a gun threatens someone- they, in turn, arm themselves and I concede that this is usually done out of necessity. I don’t fault anyone in this type of position, and I also concede that not all gun owners are nut jobs. If someone with a gun threatened a loved one I wouldn’t think twice about choking them out, stabbing them with something sharp, or gouging their eyes; but like a twisted game of rock, papers, scissors, gun beats knife and bare hands. If I were being threatened by a gun, I would want a gun myself. Of course, if there were no guns, it would be a moot point.  Why is this not a goal?  I firmly believe in the right to self-defense, but I ask: why isn’t there more emphasis on hand-to-hand defense in this country?  Why do Americans turn to the laziest, most destructive tool of “defense” with so much pride and so little responsibility? It’s disgusting, it’s shameful, and I reject the association with patriotism.  I do, however, maintain the association with wasps.

Accessible my ass

Sometimes I wish this would happen to the people running the MTA so those dickasses can live the disabled life and see what they have to say about its accessibility then. The MTA claims to have over 100 accessible stations, but let me ask them this: How many are actually functioning?  The fact that not ALL stations are accessible is shameful enough, but to allow the ones that are supposed to be accessible fall into the state of degradation I’m used to witnessing is nothing short of criminal.  I can tell you the escalators at the 59th and Lex station are maybe up and running 50% of the time, and 9 out of 10 of the times they’re down it’s the middle of fucking rush hour. Do you know what I got to watch yesterday? An old man with two crutches walk down those fucking stairs. I wanted to cry and punch someone.   Apparently same goes for the 63rd street F stop. I took that line once and I can tell you the climb out of that pit is like the bastard mutant creation of MC Escher and Dante. If your physical movement is limited and you wind up at that station when the escalator is out….eight shades of fucked: that’s what you are.  I wanted to write a letter to my congressperson demanding the MTA endure steep fines when escalators and elevators go down, but you know we’d be the ones paying for it in the form of another fucking fare hike.  Any ideas what can be done to keep the MTA in touch with their disabled passengers? Feel free to share!

PS- A word about blind commuters- who the hell wants to touch those nasty ass signs to read brail?  When they say blind people’s other senses are heightened that doesn’t include the immune system. Solutions?

UPDATE: In light of the recent shooting spree in Arizona, I’d like to make clear the implied desire to take a sledge hammer to the ankles of anyone at the MTA is nothing more than a colorful  illustration to a point and is NOT an actual threat, suggestion, or intent to act. I DO NOT support acts of violence outside of the realm of fiction, video games, and ranting.  There are lots of things I say I’d like to do that, given the chance, I would not.

Something’s Missing From This Photo

756981383_c8bab62f3cShit tons of litter, that’s what!  And a couple of douchebags blocking the staircase.  If only my morning commute were always as serene as this picture!  Almost every effing day, especially with the Mayoral race around the corner, some asshole or another congests the sidewalk in order to shove unwanted paper in my face, and do you know what happens when someone actually accepts that unwanted paper?  They take one glance at it and chuck it on the street.  And in addition to the litter issue let me also point out that I don’t consider sidewalk soliciting a form of advertising, I consider it harassment.  The ChooChoo Chicken menu guy almost got a black eye the day he shoved a menu at me so aggressively it almost cut my damned face.

Let me tell you, I am a grown-ass woman and I will take martial arts, attend an amateur comedy show, or vote for whoever on my OWN. DAMN. TIME.   I want to especially draw attention to the politicians who allow their campaigners to partake in such activities- what the fuck kind of civil servant would encourage this much paper waste?  I don’t know who the fuck Lynne Serpe is or what her views are, but I know damned well she’s the last fucking person I’ll be voting for thanks to her asshole workers fucking up the sidewalk that my taxes should be keeping clean, and that goes for Peter Vallone and any other candidate who wants to throw their garbage in my face at 9am. Dicks.

Fuck You, PETA. NO. DOUBLE FUCK YOU PETA.

all about sausage meat tree picture p9As an animal welfare advocate, animal rights groups really get under my skin, especially PETA. First, let me explain the key differences.  Whereas animal welfare advocates believe in the fair treatment of animals and responsible animal husbrandry, animal rights activists believe animals should be treated exactly as humans, meaning none should be kept as pets, used for food, used as guide dogs or therapy animals, or used for scientific research.  Now, while I don’t care for factory farming or abusing animals for the benefit of testing beauty products, I do think we’re all part of the food chain (like no animals eat humans, come on) and I understand that the genetic makeup of certain animals- i.e. drosophila (fruit flies) and mice- are so similar to our own that their sacrifice is an unfortunate necessity in advancing our understanding of disease.  As stewards of the Earth it is our responsibility to treat them as kindly as possible and provide the quickest, most painless methods of euthanasia in farming and reserach scenarios.

While I respect people who choose to go vegan and live an animal-free lifestyle, I do not resepect the assinine tactics and shock-campaigns used by PETA in an effort to draw attention to themselves.  I do not see the benefit to animals at all. What I do see is a consistent disrespect for women.  Apparently using ladies as meat is fine and good in the delusional marketing department at PETA.  I especially take issue with their naked celebrity campaigns, not because I’m a prude, but because I believe in equal opportunity nudity.  I once wrote to PETA and asked why they don’t think perpetuating the ideal of beauty as underweight, fake-titted and blonde is any worse than clubbing a baby seal. With all the young women out there with body issues, you should think an organization supposedly founded by feminists would want to fight BOTH societal norms instead.  But, as they explained in their reply, that does not make for good marketing, despite the fact that people of all races, ages, sizes and gender care about animals too.

Well now they’ve actually gone and out-right targeted overweight people in their latest campaign, which you can read about here.  Explain to me how, exactly, public humiliation is supposed to inspire anyone to go vegetarian?  And let me tell you something, as someone with a lot of hefty friends- big bodied does not equal unhealthy.  One of my besties from college has been going to the gym five days a week for almost four years now, and while he’s only slightly thinner in girth he has successfully turned that bulk into muscle.  In addition his heart is in great shape, hell he’s healthier than I am!  And why the fuck is it a sin against nature to humiliate a dog by dressing it in a silly outfit, but embarrassing our fellow humans is a-okay?  In short, because the people at PETA are assholes with no common sense, decency, or tact.

So, let PETA you know you have beef with their campaign by sending a nice meat baskets to their headquarters at:

Sarah Palin Reaffirms What We Already Know

Posted in politics, rants, scumbags, society with tags , , , , , , , on August 8, 2009 by j

downThat she is a deplorable c-u-next-Tuesday who will throw her own children under a bus for a little press.  As the daughter of a special educator I have zero tolerance for women like her, who use their special needs child as a puppet for their own agenda.  Sarah Palin doesn’t care if using her baby as a scare tactic against public health care would actually HURT millions of families struggling to care for their special needs children.  It doesn’t matter to her, she’s filthy rich from her plethora of public humiliations and as such has access to the best health care available to her. At least President Obama is man enough to acknowledge the fact that he is privileged enough to have stellar health care.  Why should he care if the rest of the country is uninsured and dying off as a result? “Me first, and fuck the rest of them, that’s the American way!” But unlike so many pundits and figureheads, he knows that attitude is sick and disgusting and no leader should treat their community that way. He has nothing to gain by making health care a common right.  He is doing this for us, not him.

Can the same be said for Sarah Palin or any of her fear-mongering cohorts, who hang effigies, spout slurs, and incite violence with their lynch mobs?  No.  These are not people exercising the right to speak freely and peaceably assemble.  Those rights do not apply hate speech, speech to incite violence or angry physical actions.  Don’t believe me?  Well go on outside, yell at the first person you see, punch them in the face and see if you don’t get your stupid ass sued and thrown in jail.  Am I saying lefties don’t take things too far sometimes? No.  But when progressives have an agenda to push they do it with logic, education, and whatever grace and dignity they can muster. They don’t haul their Down Syndrome child up in front of a camera and declare that the President has put a price on their head.  The woman truly has no shame.  But she’s not the only despicable manipulator, of course. There are plenty of parents using their children as tools for themselves, propping posters of angry rhetoric on their infants’ laps, using their strollers as a tripod.  And let’s not forget those who are using and abusing the elderly, trying to scare them away from government regulated health care when in fact many of those same folks use and enjoy their access to MediCare- a government regulated health care option.

Look, if you want to be an uninformed, misguided pawn, that is your right as an American.  If you think big pharma CEOs are better suited to make decisions about your body and your health than doctors, good luck to you.  But fuck yourself with a chainsaw if you drag your children and elders into the mess of fools with you.*

*”But Snarla, isn’t that a hateful thing to say?” Yes. It is.  But am I a politician? No.  I’m not even a journalist. I’m just a frustrated American with a filthy mouth and an ounce of common sense.

In not-so-breaking news, South Carolina REPUBLICAN (you got that straight, Fox News?) Governor Mark Sanford admitted to stepping out on not just his wife, but four kiddies as well. But still, it’s those homo queers that are a disgrace to marriage.
